Cubist almárka in original condition
This cubist almárka is an extraordinary artefact from the period of Czech cubism, a style unparalleled in the world. It was created at a time when Czech architects and designers such as Josef Gočár and Pavel Janák were looking for a way to transfer the principles of Cubism into architecture and interior design.
The cabinet impresses with its sharp lines, sloping surfaces and geometric structures, which are present both on the top plate and on the face of the door. This rhythmic morphological language creates a dynamic but harmonious visual impression, typical of Cubist furniture.
The metal round handle with lock is subtle, but fits precisely into the overall formal purity. The fittings are subtly stylized so as not to distract, but at the same time support the expression of the style. The legs of the cabinet also bear the cubist signature and, thanks to their sharp edges, harmoniously complement the overall concept.
This particular piece comes from the Prague location of Na Šafránce, known for the architect Libro who worked there. It has been preserved in its original condition and is therefore not only a functional piece of furniture, but also a rare collector's item and a cultural monument.
It fits perfectly into interiors with a historical, gallery or collector's focus, but also as a solitary element in a modern space where its unique character stands out.
